Well just how bright are our light heads? To illustrate this, I have done a test with an industry standard Hella Rotating Beacon. This beacon was one of the brightest beacons produced because of the way it's designed. Instead of having a mirror rotate around the halogen lamp, this design has the lamp fixed into the reflector unit, so it always maintains it's focal length. This is why this beacon is so bright.
So, back to the question. The Mega-Flash SC18 LED Light Head of Grille Light has 18, 3 watt latest generation OSRAM high intensity LED's. These LED's are fitted into a linear light unit which optimizes and focuses the light beam. These are then housed behind diffuser optics to produce a wide angle beam of light. This design gives what is known in technical terms as "greater off-axis light output", which simply means the light can still be viewed from the side. Off-axis views of 45 degrees either side of center can be seen with this light. It certainly is bright. As you will see, I tested the blue and the amber light heads, and I must say that considering that blue is generaly a darker colour, it surpasses the amber in terms of brightness in my opinion. Anyway you can make up you own mind by having a look at the videos on my You Tube Channel by clicking on the link. Please note, it is very difficult to capture the flashes of both the beacon and the LED, but the camera has captured enough for you to see the effect.
